OK, so I just got back from my high school reunion, so I’m the last person to be begrudging anyone a sense of nostalgia. Still, I was a bit heartbroken when I saw that Britney Spears AND Creed are playing arena shows here this September. Jesus, it’s almost like the last decade never happened. How about some better nostalgia?
Thursday, June 18

- FRODUS, MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!! “Reactivated” just to rip your face off and, possibly, hasten Armageddon. This is at Redlight, Redlight and it is TONIGHT and it will be completely awesome. Guiltmaker and Hurrah open.
Friday, June 19

- The almighty Q-Burns Abstract Message is celebrating the 15th (!!) anniversary of his Eighth Dimension Records “collective” with, appropriately enough, members of said collective, spinning their nostalgic asses off: Pimp Daddy Nash (who’s going into “semi-retirement”), Beef Wellington, and DJ BMF. Be there. [The Peacock Room]
- Need some more nostalgia? How about the fact that Joe and Chico DeBarge are playing House of Blues? Again, it’s like the last decade never happened. (Now, if we could wipe out the last TWO decades of contemporary R&B, then we’d be talking.)

- OK, so this is sorta pre-nostalgia, but the masterminds behind Pop-Off nights at the Social are hanging it up, so this will be the last chance you get to get wasted and lose your mind to the funk-ass, punk-ass DJ style put forth by Rocksteady Soundsystem and Fishdicks & Hardersauce. Be there, so you can get sappy about it later. [The Social]
Other, non-nostalgic shows this week:
- Two Zimas and the Bad Idea [Saturday, Peacock Room]
- Anthony Raneri (Bayside), Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit) and Travis Adams (Inkwell) will be doing emo-coustic sets Sunday at Back Booth. OK, with the exception of Travis, that’s sorta nostalgic … if you’re 17.
