Everything about “Curse” screams an Icelandic love of the Jesus And Mary Chain’s pre-Rick Rubin fuzztone torture. Glacial feedback and drawled vocals extract the druggy riff destruction the Brothers Reid so masterfully displayed, while a sense of spatial sprawl evokes the flat desolation of their homeland’s interior. It’s as if Henrik, Helgi, Einar, Toggi, Bjarni and Siggi (ahem) played their 45 of “Sidewalking” for years on the wrong speed, and it’s absolutely wonderful.
